MIRA Graduate Training Schemes

Chartered Engineer and Incorporated Engineer

Whilst providing a hands-on approach, both schemes are recognised by the relevant engineering institutions e.g. IMechE, IEE and IIE.

A typical graduate would follow a recognised development scheme which normally incorporates an initial two-year period throughout which each Graduate Trainee spends time on various placements within the engineering departments. This on-the-job training is key to gaining knowledge of the core processes of the business. Towards the end of the two years the Graduate Trainee will be expected to apply for a permanent position within the company and continue to develop in such a way as obtain registration with the Engineering Council via the appropriate institution.

Throughout the training scheme each Graduate Trainee will be expected to follow the requirements of the relevant Engineering Institution.

Each Graduate Trainee will be expected to apply for and obtain Chartered or Incorporated Status once all of the requirements of the relevant institution have been met.

All Graduate Trainees will be provided with a broad variety of training. Training will be provided in various forms e.g. on and off-the-job, coaching, mentoring as well as internal and external training courses. As well as providing information, this training will also cover essential business skills.

  • To provide Graduate Trainees with the opportunities to explore the various specialities and technical fields available within MIRA.
  • To provide a structured training scheme which allows Graduate Trainees to make a significant professional contribution to our business.
  • To develop Graduate Trainees to a level of performance necessary to gain a permanent position within MIRA.

Each Graduate Trainee will have a strong support network to assist them throughout the length of their training. This network will consist of regular meetings with:

• The Mentor
• The Host Department Managers
• The Training Department
• Other Graduate Trainees

To qualify for one of the MIRA Graduate Training Schemes you will need to be studying toward (or have been awarded) a fully accredited degree in one of the following disciplines:

• Mechanical Engineering
• Automotive Engineering

Industrial Placements

Industrial Placement opportunities generally arise in the Advanced Engineering Department. For information on these vacancies please contact the MIRA Personnel Department in March of the relevant year.

Work Experience

Due to the extremely large level of demand for a limited number of placements, it is advisable to make enquiries as early as possible prior to the required dates.

Any paperwork from the schools should be forwarded to MIRA’s Personnel Department where the relevant information will be completed and then returned to the school.

It will not always be possible to place young people but every effort will be made to ensure that placements are beneficial to both MIRA and the student.
