EMC : Radio Frequency Fully Anechoic Chamber

MIRA provides the complete range of automotive EMC test services on behalf of off-highway and road vehicle manufacturers and their supply chain. Our extensive suite of ISO 17025 accredited automotive test laboratories are used for development, design verification and certification tests. A dedicated team of over 50 qualified EMC technicians and engineers with more than 500 man years of automotive engineering experience aim to provide the best quality service at very competitive prices.

This state of the art facility was designed for 3m and 5m range measurements of RF emissions and the immunity of automotive components and systems to electromagnetic disturbances. It can accommodate vehicles with a maximum weight of 12 tonnes. The laboratory is RF anechoic up to frequencies up to 100 GHz whilst the test system is capable of measuring the level of radio frequency interference suppression of electronic equipment at frequencies as high as 170 GHz. This is particularly relevant when measuring the frequency harmonics of systems used i.e. road toll charging (5.6 GHz), vehicle to vehicle communication (56 GHz) and vehicle-based forward facing radar (24 GHz & 77 GHz).

Component and system development, design validation and certification tests

This ISO 17025 accredited laboratory meets all mandatory and vehicle manufacturers’ specifications for performing radio frequency interference measurements and to assess the immunity of components and systems to electromagnetic disturbances. The flexibility of our test system software and systems for monitoring the functional performance of equipment under test enables complex system tests to be run concurrently thereby helping to reduce the overall cost of EMC ‘sign-off’.

Vehicle EMC development, design validation and certification tests

The EMC functional performance of vehicles’ systems that do not require the use of a rolling road dynamometer to simulate operating conditions are performed in this high specification laboratory. We can replicate real-world audio transmissions (eg GSM, GPS, GPRS) without the risk of interfering with other users of the radio frequency spectrum. We have developed an audio interference test method to evaluate the levels of audible noise on in-car entertainment systems due to electrical noise from equipment fitted to vehicles, such as: windscreen wipers, heater blower motors, seat motors and other intermittent or continuous sources.
