MIRA's new Heavy Vehicle Semi-Anechoic Chamber complements the existing suite of vehicle test laboratories by providing a chamber capable of testing large defence, off highway and commercial vehicles in an RF semi-anechoic environment. The cavernous main chamber posts impressive dimensions measuring: 20m by 11m by 7m high. MIRA already boasts the largest suite of automotive EMC test facilities in Europe, employing over 50 qualified technical staff.
MIRA used advanced modelling techniques, developed through an internally funded research programme, in the design of the new chamber. Rather than lining the whole chamber in costly electromagnetic absorber material, the specialised materials were intelligently restricted to local 'hot spots'. This facility optimisation programme reduced the capital build costs without restricting performance. Consequently, the facility hire has been proportionally reduced, saving customers money.

Other guests attended a Military Land Vehicle Seminar which considered some of the challenges facing military vehicle providers and how technology and methodologies learnt within the automotive industry can be employed in the design of future defence vehicles.
