MIRA one stop solution for R&TTE Directive and automotive legislation compliance

20 April 2004

MIRA offers a compliance service to ensure conformity of SRDs to R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC, concerned with the RF spectrum management issues and the fitness for purposes as a radio product, with the road safety issues and the effects on the vehicle covered by automotive legislation.

. When an SRD is fitted to a vehicle, satisfactory evidence is required to demonstrate that the SRD and installation does not compromise road safety.

. When the SRD interacts or is part of the vehicle direct control functionality, the SRD must exhibit satisfactory RF immunity.

. Where the SRD is associated with an item of machinery, evidence is required that the SRD system has adequate immunity for all EMC phenomena for human health and safety.

"The difference between vehicle legislation and the R&TTE Directive is that vehicle legislation is concerned with safe operation or fail safe characteristics whereas R&TTE is concerned with the system radio operational performance," says Steven Clegg, Compliance Engineer at MIRA. "By keeping abreast of changes to EU Directives including automotive legislation, MIRA is able to provide a compliance service that ensures that SRDs meet all the relevant requirements."
