Clearly the pre-season aero, chassis and safety work by MIRA has generated a serious on-track advantage. Team Halfords' Integras have claimed five out of six of the race victories. 2003 champion Yvan Muller is the only other driver to have stood on the winner's rostrum.
The three races produced some truly memorable BTCC action and will make for spectacular viewing when they are shown on ITV1 next Saturday 7 May.
Angus Lock, Aerodynamics Consultant, MIRA Ltd commented: "Moving into 2005 with 30% more downforce and a drag reduction is some achievement. The Integra's new aero pack allows the drivers to exploit advantages in the high speed sections. The improved high speed braking and turn in will be obvious to the drivers. The car should also be very stable mid corner with increased traction at the exit. Obviously, with the right gearing the top speed will be slightly higher too."
Working closely with the team in the pre-season development, MIRA designed a special roll-cage for the team that ensures the car is not just crashworthy, but it is also the foundation of a chassis that is responsive to set-up changes. Critically, the design achieves a very low centre of gravity. The FEA work improved the final design stiffness by nearly 40% over the baseline, combined with lower weight and C of G, allowing the vehicle to achieve higher lateral G.
The triple wins have catapulted Eaves into the championship lead. Team-mate Matt Neal, the previous championship leader, also finished on the podium twice, despite carrying maximum success ballast from his double Donnington victories; so Matt now lies in second eight points behind Eaves, but seven ahead of Yvan Muller. The Team Halfords squad has extended its lead in 'the Teams' title race to 42.
Matt Neal enthused: "Fantastic. When we left Donington we said that was great but we'll never better it, but I think we just have this weekend with Danny getting three wins out of three and me backing him up was a fantastic day. Danny's been on fire all weekend."

Eaves, in his Honda Integra, overtook Jason Plato to win the first race after early leader Tom Chilton needed a pit stop to change a tyre. Plato finished second, just ahead of Neal, who would go into the day's second race still leading the standings. but by a reduced margin of just five points over Eaves. Yvan Muller, Neal's closest points rival prior to Thruxton trailed in a distant sixth and was consequently overtaken in the points table by Eaves.
Winning race one enabled Eaves to start the second race from pole position. In a lights to flag victory Eaves stormed away to his second win of the day, setting the fastest lap time en route. A devastating display considering his Honda was now carrying maximum success ballast.
Team mate Neal overtook Plato and Muller with decisive moves at the super-fast Goodwood corner and followed Eaves home for a 1-2 finish. The pre-season aerodynamic work by MIRA clearly paying dividends at this critical part of the circuit.
Heading into the third and final race Team Halfords drivers Neal and Eaves were sensationally tied on points at the head of the championship. BTCC Rules dictate that the starting order for the third race is decided by the finishing order of the second - but with the top ten positions reversed. Eaves would start tenth, Neal ninth, Muller eighth etc.
Eaves fought his way through the field, spectacularly overtaking Hines and Turkington in one move to take the lead. Once in clean air Eaves extended his lead once again for an amazing third victory - the first driver in BTCC history to win all three races in a day.
A delighted Eaves said: "I'm just stunned. Half way through the third race there was no way I thought I would win but suddenly everything started playing into my hands and I took advantage. Three wins and the championship lead . it's just a dream come true but it's also the result of a great team and a great car. Based on the racing today, Brands Hatch is going to be something else."
