More than just vehicle testing...

11 August 2005

The history behind this; in the summer of 2004, MIRA were approached by the BBC to assist in the filming of a Triceratops (in a sufficient sized area) to illustrate the impact of Dino's skull with a hefty object. In this instance, we used a composite constructed wall made of aluminium sheeting, with a honeycomb wall behind a crash block, covered in leatherette to simulate the skin of a dinosaur like Tyrannosaurus.

The object of the exercise was to determine whether the 2 forward pointing horns and smaller nose horn could be used in a defensive role to fend off attack by predatory dinosaurs.

Accompanied by a celebrity, Bill Oddie, the crash lab team were quick to assist in the development of the programme and scheduled their existing workload around filming. Bill Oddie will be narrating the "Killer Dino's" scheduled for Sunday 28 August and 4 September on BBC TV at 8.00 pm.

Here are some photographs taken during filming. To see the outcome, make sure you tune in to BBC on the dates above.
