Noise Directive

  • Advisory service to assist clients in understanding the directive, especially the different approval procedures.
  • Approval and testing services for equipment subject to noise limits as defined in Article 12 of the directive.
  • Testing services for equipment subject to noise marking as defined in Article 13 of the directive.

APPROVAL Annexes of 2000/14/EC

ANNEX V

Internal control of production

  • self declaration by manufacturer
  • must have technical documentation

All equipment must be CE marked and carry a label showing the guaranteed sound power level.

ANNEX VI

Internal control of production with assessment of technical documentation and periodic checking

  • Technical file reviewed by Notified Body before placing on the market
  • Notified Body reviews during production by random checks and/or routine checks at NB discretion
  • Non-compliance is notified to Member State and Commission.

All equipment must be CE marked and carry a label showing the guaranteed sound power level.

ANNEX VII

Unit verification

  • Technical documentation reviewed by Notified Body
  • Notified Body must agree location of Noise tests and carry out, or arrange to have carried out the tests.
  • NB issues certificate of conformity
  • Manufacturer then responsible for self declaration
  • Equipment must be CE marked and carry a label showing the guaranteed sound power level.

NOTE: this annex is for single approvals only. (Applies to one-off special manufacturer or single product import, etc)

ANNEX VIII

Full Quality Assurance

  • Quality system reviewed by Notified Body
  • Technical file reviewed by NB
  • Quality system reviewed periodically and /or randomly by NB at NB’s discretion.
  • Non-compliance is notified to Member State and Commission.

The full quality assurance route is a great advantage to the manufacturer of a large range of equipment. If the customer is able to follow this route his products are not subject to the individual product monitoring required under annex VI. This route does not demand the certification of the customer to ISO 9001 or ISO 9002, only that the customer has a quality system that meets the requirements of annex VIII.

All equipment must be CE marked and carry a label showing the guaranteed sound power level.

Conformity assessment procedures for equipment subject to noise limits

(article 12 of 2000/14/EC)

Before placing on the market or putting into service any equipment referred to in Article 12 the manufacturer, or his authorised representative established in the Community, shall subject each type of equipment to one of the following conformity assessment procedures:

  • the internal control of production with assessment of technical documentation and
periodical checking procedure referred to in Annex VI, or
  • the unit verification procedure referred to in Annex VII, or
  • the full quality assurance procedure referred to in Annex VIII.
