System Development and Product Design

From the design of a small circuit board to the development of a complete product, MIRA delivers high quality yet cost-effective solutions.  The bredth of MIRA's expertise has led to our involvement in a diverse range of projects.  Examples such as power management tools for hybrid vehicles, innovative test rigs, and autonomous vehicles.  Some examples are included in our case studies.

MACE:

MIRA's autonomous vehicle development platform enables us to trial and demonstrate sophisticated sensors and control system algorithms.

Electrical Systems Integration (ESI)

The increased demand for automotive electronics, fewer cables, less weight in vehicles and reduction in costs make integrating electrical systems more complex to the OEM or supplier.  Environmental issues such as recyclable battery power forces engineering solutions to become even more complex. In order to meet customer requirements without iteration of build cycles and additional costs, a purposeful design phase is incorporated to units, system, or sub-system and takes into account the surrounding environment.

Software/Safety-Related Systems

Vehicle manufacturers are increasingly dependent upon embedded electronic systems to provide the next breakthrough in improving car safety and functionality.  MIRA’s services enable our clients to design, develop and validate safe technologies for electronic driver assistance systems, appropriate for safe mass-production in an automotive environment.

Further details of how MIRA can help you with software and electrical systems integrity is included in this brochure:

Electrical Analysis

Design analysis tasks can be undertaken on vehicle electrical distribution systems and electrical architectures. This would typically take the form of analysis of the electrical architecture for parameters such as volt drop, earthing and fusing characteristics. In addition, the analysis tools can be used to automate tasks such as sneak path analysis, and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).

Thermal Modeling of PCBs

MIRA is recognised for its experience and expertise in automotive thermal management. The tools and techniques used here can readily be applied to the modelling of the thermal environment of printed circuit boards (PCBs). Higher power and denser PCBs plus their increasing use on vehicle means thermal management issue need to be addressed early in the design process.

The heat transfer and cooling airflow software RADTHERM and FLUENT, which are licensed by MIRA, can be used to rapidly model PCB layouts with specific attention to the thermal management issues such as cooling airflow distribution, heat sinks and the influence of external heat sources (frequently hostile in the automotive environment). Modelling is used to develop the cooling strategy development and optimise this through rapid parametric evaluations.

Recent projects include heat protection responsibility on various product engineering programmes for component suppliers, design houses and vehicle manufacturers.
