Value Engineering

Through the teardown of the OEM product MIRA's teams pool all their multi-disciplinary knowledge to generate a list of 'value' engineering opportunities for the client. These will identifying ideas that reduce the manufacturing cost and/or weight of the vehicle without compromise to its perceived performance or quality. The focus is on items that are achievable in product life cycle.

The types of ideas generated include:

Integration - Reducing parts by integrating features of two or more components into a single part
Material Change - Selection of alternative, more cost/weight efficient materials
Deletion - System modifications to reduce the parts list or processes
Commonisation - Ways or using common parts or processes across the range and or products
New Concepts - New Ideas for existing parts

Output Benefits

Normally Between 300 - 500 individual Ideas generated (dependent on each project)
Low cost application of a “fresh pair of eyes” over the product
MIRA is independent and provides an un-biased opinion based on our extensive multi-disciplined experience
All savings yielded by OEM remain with the OEM - MIRA has no financial interest in the ideas once the project is completed

All of our clients have, after seeing our work on one vehicle, committed themselves to further work on other models or platforms
A single idea on one project saved $10 per vehicle, with the design change being implemented before the conclusion of our project
Another idea exchanged a component by utilising the OEM part bin, resulting in a net saving of $14 per vehicle
One engineering director indicated, in a thank you letter to MIRA, that a project had achieved a ratio of 10:1 – saving £10 per year for every £1 spent with MIRA
