Testing : Durability

Accelerated Vehicle, Component & Systems Durability

What durability test specification do you need to work to?  MIRA has experience of working to virtually all vehicle manufacturer and tier 1 supplier specifications.  Where these are not available or need to be revisited MIRA has specialist expertise in developing accurately-correlated durability cycles based on actual customer usage, allowing you to achieve optimised designs that are safe, robust and durable but avoid the unnecessary costs of over-engineering.  Our Durability Consultancy pages have more details of how you can benefit from this service.

Special Purpose Test Rigs

Durability and fatigue testing can be carried out on one of MIRA's many special purpose rigs:

  • Seat Test Rigs including our Seat Test KUKA Robot with ‘Ocubot’
  • Suspension Rig (8-channel)
  • Vehicle Four-Poster Rig
  • Hydraulic Con-Rod and Torsion Rigs
  • General Servo-Hydraulic Rigs
  • Load/Force/Deflection Rigs

Bespoke Test Rigs

The disparate nature of the many products we develop often leads to our engineers building bespoke rigs from our range of flexible tools:

  • Bedplates & Test Frames for Bespoke Set-Ups
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic Actuators
  • Multi-Axis Shaker Tables (MAST) including Team CUBE™
  • Component Test Rigs

Key Life Testing

MIRA is one of the most experienced providers of Key Life Testing.  Key Life Testing is a system or sub-system based test designed to demonstrate failure modes within the expected useful life e.g. 10 years/150,000 miles.

The testing is based on product specific data and correlates closely to the actual range of usage conditions.

More details of Key Life Testing can be found here:

Proving Ground Durability Circuits & Features

MIRA's proving ground is used extensively for accelerated durability testing on whole vehicles.  In addition to the traditional durability surfaces:

  • Belgian Pavé
  • Corrugations
  • Resonance Road
  • Stone Road

many of the other proving ground surfaces and features are used to build up a track based equivalent to the real world.

If failures occur, MIRA has the expertise on site to redesign, model, manufacture and test new or revised components – minimising programme delays and extra cost. MIRA has a comprehensive suite of accelerated durability surfaces and features which facilitate highly-accelerated test cycles for all motor vehicles from the passenger car, commercial vehicle, military and agricultural/construction markets.
