MIRA's independent test facilities and capabilities are among the best in the world. We offer bespoke military test programmes from simple rig based component testing, through systems testing to whole vehicle testing, across the full range of performance requirements and validation.
MIRA is the largest independent EMC test and development centre in Europe and our defence engineering capabilities are world-class.
Durability and reliability can be assessed, developed and validated on our rig based facilities or on the proving ground.
The MIRA proving ground provides the facilities to test an extensive range of vehicle engineering, mobility, and vehicle dynamics attributes and performance requirements, which include but not limited to: high speed metalled roads, gradients, off road, wading, pavé, and can replicate a variety of battlefield mission scenarios.
Powertrain development is supported by test cells that can accommodate performance and emissions testing for conventional, hybrid and electric power plants as well as fuel cell development.
MIRA also houses specialist facilities to test and validate body structures and whole vehicles for structural integrity, pedestrian protection and conventional and mine protection for vehicle occupants.
MIRA is revolutionising the durability and reliability assessment and development of defence vehicles.

MIRA is an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) full service provider to the defence sector. Supporting all aspects of Def Stan and Mil Std testing, MIRA’s EMC engineering expertise is invaluable in reducing programme risk. We will undertake risk management activities and minimise the EMC threat to products prior to any testing. Our team can support with the design and manufacture of EMC counter measures to ensure product compliance. Our EM simulation experts are on hand to assist with antenna design and placement requirements.
Survivability on the battlefield depends on remaining undetected from the enemy, but military platforms emit various unwanted signals, from visible light and acoustic noise to reflected radar. These can be detected and used to pinpoint positions. Consequently, the platform must blend into its environment in such a way that the surveillance sensors being deployed by the enemy are unable to distinguish the threat before it’s too late.
MIRA Defence EMC testing facilities meet the full requirements for the Def Stan 59-411 and MIL-STD. MIRA is also perfectly placed to support any CE marking requirements of defence systems ensuring the most efficient route to compliance.
MIRA Component and sub-system testing facilities are accredited for all major vehicle manufacturers test schedules through the automotive EMC laboratory recognition program (AEMCLERP) as well as all the automotive directives.
MIRA’s proving ground is one the largest, most comprehensively specified and truly independent automotive proving grounds in the world. Located in the Midlands, at the heart of the UK Automotive cluster, MIRA offers every kind of global driving challenge from one location in complete safety and security.
MIRA has two state of the art climatic wind tunnels (CWTs). These facilities allow our customers to test their products under a wide range of wind speeds while exposed to different global environmental conditions. This enables customers development time-scales to be further compressed, delivering 'right first time' products into markets faster and more cost effectively than their competitors.
The Components test lab is equipped with a vast range of test equipment to assess the performance of your product. Our aim is to provide rigorous assessment, of the fitness for purpose of the product, over its intended lifetime.
Alongside MIRA’s dynamic and durability test facilities our Body Structures Laboratory conducts testing for all aspects of safety and development for vehicle seating.
